محمود خليل الحصري

About

Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary (1917–1980) was an Egyptian Qari widely regarded as one of the finest teachers of tajweed of the twentieth century. He was the first reciter to record a complete murattal (slow, teaching-pace) recitation of the Quran for Egyptian State Radio.

Recitation style

Al-Husary's murattal is the reference for beginners studying tajweed. His pace is deliberately slow, every rule of madd, ghunna and idgham is textbook-clear, and there is no ornamentation that could distract a student from the rules of recitation.

Best known for

The complete tarteel / murattal recording that every serious student of tajweed learns from, and his Warsh narration recording used across North and West Africa.
