Ghunna (nasalization)
الغنّة
Transliteration: Ghunna
What it is
Ghunna is a nasal hum held for approximately two counts. It is produced through the nasal cavity while the mouth is closed for a meem or noon.
When it applies
Any noon or meem carrying a shaddah (doubled letter), and in most of the ikhfa, idgham and iqlab situations. Essentially wherever the noon or meem is pronounced with any degree of prolongation.
How it sounds
